Ingredients: Actions & Benefits
Arjuna Ghṛta is prepared from three main components: Arjuna svarasa (fresh juice of Terminalia arjuna bark), Arjuna kalka (fine paste of the same bark), and Goghṛta (cow’s ghee).
- Arjuna svarasa and kalka are traditionally described as having a Kashaya (astringent) rasa and a Stambhana (binding) action. In Ayurvedic practice they are used to strengthen the heart (hridya), promote wound healing, and help control bleeding. The astringent quality is believed to tone tissues and support the integrity of blood vessels.
- Ghṛta is regarded as a Snigdha (unctuous) and Rasayana (rejuvenative) medium. It carries the active principles of Arjuna deeper into the tissues, provides nourishment, and balances Vata and Pitta doshas. Ghee itself is considered medhya (supporting intellect) and balya (strength‑giving).
When combined, Arjuna’s astringent and heart‑tonic qualities are delivered efficiently by the ghee. This synergy may:
- Help maintain normal heart‑muscle contraction.
- Protect blood‑vessel lining through antioxidant action.
- Boost overall energy by balancing Vata‑Pitta and nourishing body tissues. [1][2]
Arjuna’s binding property, plus ghee’s moisturizing nature, has been used on minor cuts and scrapes. The astringent agents tighten surface tissue while the lipid base keeps the area soft. Lab studies note Arjuna extracts show antimicrobial activity and can stimulate collagen formation, which may explain the traditional wound‑care use. However, these effects are supportive, not curative, and clinical proof is still limited.
