Dosage & Anupana

Take 1 to 2 tablets (150–500 mg) twice daily, only during the latter half of the menstrual cycle. If taking with allopathic medicines, take the allopathic medicine first, wait 30 minutes, then wait another 15–30 minutes before taking Bolādi Vati, unless directed otherwise by a physician.

How the Ingredients Work Together

Ayurveda views menstrual problems as an imbalance of Vata and Pitta doshas and the buildup of “Ama” (toxins).

  • Astringent agents (Bola and Kasīsa) tighten tissues and control excess bleeding.
  • Cooling agents (Bola and Aloe) calm inflammation in the pelvic area.
  • Antispasmodic agent (Asafoetida) relaxes uterine muscles, reducing cramps.
  • Calming agent (Jatamansi decoction) lowers stress, which can otherwise worsen menstrual symptoms.
  • Cleansing agent (Borax) helps remove Ama that may block normal flow.

Together, these actions aim to restore the natural rhythm of the menstrual cycle without forcing rapid changes.

Modern Scientific Insight

  • Myrrh shows anti-inflammatory and astringent effects in lab studies, supporting its traditional use.
  • Borax has antimicrobial activity, but internal use requires careful purification.
  • Ferrous sulfate is a proven iron supplement that helps with fatigue caused by blood loss.
  • Asafoetida has documented antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties that may lessen menstrual cramps.
  • Aloe vera exhibits anti-inflammatory and wound-healing actions, which can soothe pelvic tissues.
  • Jatamansi shows adaptogenic and anxiolytic effects that help manage stress-related menstrual issues.
