Overview & Modern Science
Ear wax is a natural substance that protects the ear. However, when there is an excessive buildup, it can block the ear canal, leading to discomfort and hearing issues.
Ayurveda refers to this condition as Karnavarca (ear wax buildup). It occurs due to an increase in waste from muscle and fat tissues (Māmsa medo mala) and an excess of oily Kapha dosha (Kapha vṛddhi) in the ear canal, which is a primary site of Vata (Vāta sthāna). This excess Kapha dries and sticks in the ear, causing blockage.
